Come Discover the Colorado River!
Colorado River Discovery offers one of the most spectacular Colorado River rafting tours available anywhere on the mighty Colorado River (see map). We provide half-day smoothwater float trips that are perfect for the entire family (kids aged 4 and up) from March 1 through November 30 of each year.
Departing from the scenic town of Page, Arizona, your trip will begin with an exciting and exclusive ride down the two-mile long Glen Canyon Dam access tunnel. At river level, with the dam soaring 700 feet above you, you will board a comfortable pontoon raft for your journey downstream.
For the next fifteen miles, you will experience one of the most dramatic stretches of river in the western United States. Your experienced guide will tell the story of the area’s soaring sandstone cliffs, crystal blue-green waters, abundant wildlife, exploration by Major John Wesley Powell and others, and the river's modern role in the Southwest’s water and power delivery system.
A stop to view an impressive set of ancient petroglyphs will offer a you chance to stretch your legs while bearing witness to the area’s former inhabitance by ancient native cultures. If you choose, you may also refresh yourself by wading in the cold, clear river.
The river portion of your trip ends at historic Lees Ferry, gateway to the Grand Canyon. Here you will board your bus for the short ride back to Page, where your vehicle or other transportation awaits.
Full-Day Rowing Trips for 2009
Colorado River Discovery is very pleased to now offer a full-day rowing trip option. The itinerary is the same as our standard trips described above, but these trips will utilize smaller, human-powered rafts rowed by expert boatman also skilled at interpreting the area.
These trips are available on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday only.
Colorado River Discovery's rowing trips will allow for a quieter and even more leisurely experience, and a very intimate encounter with this beautiful stretch of the Colorado River. Stops will include Lunch Beach, where participants will enjoy a satisfying deli style mid-day meal, and a visit to the outstanding Ancestral Puebloan petroglyph panel, some 2000 years old.
Each Colorado River Discovery row boat holds a maximum of eight guests, plus your guide. Participants in the full-day rowing trip meet at our Page, Arizona headquarters at 8:30 a.m. and will return to Page at approximately 5 p.m. Space is limited so book early.
All Colorado River Discovery guests are welcome to bring their own drinks, lunch or snacks. A variety of such items are available for purchase at our headquarters in Page.
